„Ein Weg ist ein Weg auch im Nebel.”Ist da ein Riss im Boden? Und was ist mit dem großen Riss durchs Gelände? Mit der phantastischen Wachheit des Einsamen beobachtet Herr Geiser seine Umwelt. Es regnet seit Wochen. Was, wenn der Berg ins Rutschen kommt und das Haus, das Dorf, das ganze Tal verschüttet für alle Zeit? Herr Geiser beginnt zu sammeln: Wissen, das nicht verloren gehen darf: Daten, Fakten, Listen, Notizen. Auch, um seinem Gedächtnis auf die Sprünge zu helfen, das in letzter Zeit deutliche Lücken aufweist. Einen nächtlichen Fluchtversuch in Richtung seiner alten Heimat Basel bricht er unversehens ab und kehrt zurück in sein Haus am Berg. Oder war er überhaupt je weg gewesen? Dem eigenen Verschwinden ist nicht zu entkommen.Für Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän (1979) ließ sich Max Frisch vom Sonderling und Einsiedler Armand Schulthess inspirieren, der im Tessin einen enzyklopädischen Garten anlegte und zeitlebens versuchte, das humane Universum zu rekonstruieren. In seiner ersten Arbeit für das Deutsche Theater nähert sich der Schweizer Regisseur Thom Luz mit seinem Ensemble auf assoziativ-musikalische Weise diesem Text, der in ungewissen Zeiten wieder an Bedeutung gewinnt. Ein Versuch von Ordnung der Wirklichkeit im natürlichen Chaos, ein theatraler Vorgang über den unvermeidlichen Verfall des menschlichen Körpers und gegen das unaufhaltsame Abhandenkommen der Welt.
